`Only Supreme Court can ban a political party`

LAHORE: Federal Minister for Science and Technology Rana Tanveer Husain says only the Supreme Court can han any political party and the government is reviewing the anti-Pakistan speeches and can file a reference in the apex court.
He said if Imran Khan was moving the SC in connection withPanama Papers allegations against the prime minister and his family members, his protest was illogical.
The minister was talking to reporters at a national workshop on `Organic Food and Health: Avenues of Innovation and Entrepreneurship` organised by the Pakistan Council for Science & Technology (PCST) at a private university here on Monday.
Earlier addressing the workshop participants, Mr Hussain stressed the significance of organic food and its positive role to address health challenges posed by changing lifestyle and growing stress of modern competitive life in Pakistan.He said his ministry was committed to supporting every effort in promotion of awareness on science that would improve living standards, economic development and prosperity of people. Besides uplifting the health standards of society, organic food had the potential to alleviate poverty by providing employment to unskilled and semi-skilled labour force, he added while appreciating the PCST for organising the worl(shop.
PCST Chairman Prof Dr Anwarul Hassan Gilani, in his address, said the worl(shop had brought together scientists, researchers, entrepreneurs, organic farmers and mem-bers of the civil society to share ideas and knowledge about various aspects of organic food and health.
He also shared his research on organic foods which were effective and safe remedy for chronic diseases like diabetes and heart disease.
Punjab Agriculture Minister Dr Farrukh Javed encouraged the researchers to explore more in the field of organic farming.
Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha, vice chancellor of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, said organic food was healthier and had more advantages than nonorganic food.
