PEDO affairs

2017-08-30
THE Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organisation (PEDO), an engineering works department, is not registered with the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC).

The organisation doesnothave either an engineer CEO as required by the PEC.

According to media reports, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is considering changing the rules of PEDO to accommodate their candidate.

The enforcement of these rules is the responsibility of the PEC whose mandate is to regulate the engineeringprofession.

But, unfortunately, like PEDO there are many other government engineering entities that are not registered with the PECoreven donothave a CEO.

If the KP government changes PEDO rules to remove the requirement that only an engineering degree-holder should be CEO, than it will be a failure of the PEC, which has failed to enforce its rules in government companies. The PEC should change its attitude and ensure that all PEC rules for company registrations are applied in private and government-owned companies equally.

This will also help improve the working of government-owned companies.
