`Population census failed to produce complete details of Karachi`

KARACHI: The Sindh government and the Pakistan Peoples Party have deep reservations about the initial results of the population census which will be discussed at length on the return of Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah from Haj, said Sindh Information Minister Nasir Hussain Shah.
He said that though billions of rupees were spent by the government on the census, it failed to produce complete details of Karachi and its population.
The minister added that the economy of the entire country depends on the census as it directly affects the NFC award.
Earlier, speaking at the seminar as the chief guest, he claimed that three previous PPP governments fully backed and supported the CPEC and the first visit to China in that regard was conducted by president Asif Zardari.
Nasir added that CPEC would open doors of economic progress for Pakistan and those who were propagating against it were not the country`s well-wishers.
He also expressed his belief that completion of Keti Bandar and Dhabeji economic zone projects would boost the economy of the province and result in prosperity.Katchi abadis The Sindh government has given approval for inclusion of 44 katchi abadis in its upgrade plan and formed four subcommittees for provision of basic amenities to these settlements.
This was disclosed by Ghulam Murtaza Baloch, special assistant to the Sindh chief minister, while presiding over a meeting of the Sindh Katchi Abadi Authority`s governing board at the Sindh Secretariat here.
Briefing the committee, Mr Baloch said 100 katchi abadis will be upgraded by the next financial year. He claimed that the provincial government hadspent Rs121 million on provision of potable water and development of sewer systems in 351 regularised katchi abadis.
The subcommittee for procurement is headed by MPA Abdul Karim Soomro, land and development subcommittee is headed by MPA Sajid Jokhio, finance subcommittee by MPA Shaheena Sher Ali and HR subcommittee by Sukkur Mayor Arsalan Shaikh.
Those present at the meeting included katchi abadis secretary Dr Mansoor, Hyderabad Commissioner Saeed Mangnejo, local bodies secretary Saleem Baloch and land utilisation`s additional secretary Jalaluddin Mahar among others.
