LAYYAH: An additional district and sessions judge of Kot Addu has issued a notice to the Daira Deen Panah SHO for Sept 6 on the complaint of a woman who accused police of protecting three constables who raped her a few days ago.
The woman filed a writ petition on Aug 26, complaining that police are not registering a case against three constables who raped her when she, along with her husband, was on her way home at MohallahEidgah near Taunsa Barrage.
The complainant, the wife of a rickshaw driver, told Dawn that she was returning home with her husband when three constables raped her at a deserted place. She said they (the couple) immediately visited the police station and lodged complaint but the officials did not entertain their plea.
She then submitted an application to the area magistrate for her medical checkup and issuance of a medico-legal certificate (MLC).
Civil Judge Murtaza Baloch ordered her medical examination and the process was conducted by DrNasreen at the Tehsil Headquarters (T HQ) hospital on Aug 24, she said.
The woman said she again visited the police station with the MLC but policemen still refused to register a case. As a last resort, she said, she moved court and pleaded that a case be registered against the perpetrators and that she and herhusband provided protection.
Rights activist Advocate Nuzhat Yasmeen deplored the incident and demanded a high-level inquiry. She said the constables should be given exemplary punishment if found guilty.
