ISLAMABAD: India and Pakistan have reaffirmed their determination to implement the provisions of the Simla Agreement ... for the establishment of durable peace in the Subcontinent. The reaffirmation is contained in a joint communique issued late tonight [Aug 29] on the conclusion of the five-day talks held in New Delhi between the representatives of President Bhutto and Premier Indira Gandhi. According to the communique ... the representatives also proposed to their respective Governments to extend the period for withdrawal of troops to international borders ... in view of `certain practical difficulties`. They have further recommended that the line of control in Jammu and Kashmir resulting from the cease-fire of Dec 17, 1971, will be delineated along its entire length and respected by both sides without prejudice to the recognised positions of either side. News agencies [Meanwhile, as reported by news agencies in Rawalpindi,] President Zulfikar Ali Bhutto declared here tonight [Aug 29] that ... `We will stand by China like China has stood by us` ... . .
The President said Sino-Pakistan relations had gone through many stresses and strains ... but they have continued to develop from strength to strength.
