Boundary Forces abolished

LAHOR E: The Joint Defence Council which met in Lahore today [Aug 29] decided to abolish the Punjab Boundary Force with effect from the midnight of August 31. The areas at present covered by the Force will then be handed over to the direct and individual control, as opposed to the indirect and joint control at present obtaining of the respective Dominion Governments.

It was also decided that India and Pakistan will each set up a new military headquarters to control the areas which at present form part of the boundary area. The Boundary Force will be dissolved immediately, thus leaving India and Pakistan responsible for the maintenance of law and order in their own territories. The conference,which was held this morning,was attended by Quaid-e-Azam Jinnah, Government General of Pakistan, Lord Mountbatten, GovernorGeneral of Hindustan, Mr. Liaquat Ali Khan, Prime Minister of Pakistan, Pandit Nehru, Prime Minister of Hindustan [etc].

[Meanwhile,it was also reported from Lahore that] As a result of continued disturbed conditions in certain areas, a number of stations on the Multan and Lahore divisions have been closed down due to the station staff having absconded, says a bulletin issued by the N.W.
