ACE fails to arrest two ex-MNAs despite raids

SAHIWAL: Officials of the Anti-Corruption Establishment regional directorate twice raided Rai House, Chichawatni, but failed to arrest Rai Hasan Nawaz and Rai Murtaza Iqbal, ex-parliamentarians and central leaders of Pakistan Tehreeki-Insaf, who were nominated in a corruption inquiry wherein Rs30.14 million legal conversion fee was not submitted to the national exchequer in 2019-20.
ACE Assistant Director Rana Zahid and inspector Subhani told the media that in both raids the suspects managed to escape from their residences in Chichawatni city.
Both ex-MNAs Rai Hasan Nawaz and Rai Murtaza Iqbal are wanted in case 06/2023 registered with ACE police under sections 420, 166, 409, of PPC and PCA 5/2-47 on the com-plaint of ACE ASI Allah Ditta.
The case was registered after the finalisation of the inquiry report on June 2, 2023.
The inquiry stated the Rais did not pay a legalfee of converting domestic use building into commercial use where a private commercial bank and a petrol pump were operational adjacent to Rai House, Old GT Road, Chichawatni.
The report said a commercial building was also established at a plot having Khawat No 140, Khatoni 140 without paying proper commercial fees to municipal committee, Chichawatni.
The ACE officials said audit report stated no conversion fee was paid and the Rais lost the case at Lahore High Court, Multan bench, upon which the local government secretary had rejectedthe appealand directed the MC to collect Rs30.14 million from them.SUSPENDED: A lineman of Multan Electric Power Company, Harappa sub-division, was suspended over provision of bogus and illegal electricity connection to a private housing colony by taking millions of rupees.
Lineman Sajid Rauf was suspended by Mepco EXEN Fasil Zafar on a private complaint submitted by a citizen in Harrapa.
It is learnt that the lineman succeeded in getting electric poles, wire and transformers issued from the Mepco regional store and later fixed them against those bogus connections.
EXEN Fasil Zafar and SE Azmat Khan said they had ordered a departmental inquiry into the case.
Sajid Rouf had earlier been suspended on corruption charges by Mepco regional office.
