Khattak a frustrated man: opposition

Bureau Report 2013-10-30
PESHAWAR, Oct 29: Members of the opposition in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Tuesday flayed the chief minister for his derogatory remarks against them and said Pervez Khattak couldn`t stand criticism and was a frustrated man.

On the floor of the house on Monday, the chief minister had warned to expose the `wrongdoings` of the opposition parties committed during their rule in the province.

The warning had come after the opposition members criticised the government for not releasing development funds to them.

On Tuesday, ANP parliamentary leader Sardar Hussain Babak, JUI-F parliamentary leader Maulana Lutfur Rehman, PML-N MPA Sardar Aurangzeb Nalutha and PPP MPA Nighat Orakzai showed up at Peshawar Press Club to address a joint news conference against the chief minister`s diatribe against opposition benches.

Mr Babak said the PTI-led provincial government had detracted from the traditions of the province as its chief minister couldn`t stand criticism as a frustrated person.

He said the speaker of the assembly should have given a chance to the opposition members to respond to the chief minister`s derogatory remarks but he instead adjourned the session.

The ANP leader criticised the provincial government over `soft` stand on militancy and said his party`s government in the province had faced militants boldly.

He said the opposition parties would move the court against the abolition of union councils as proposed in the new local government bill.

Mr Babak said the plan to hold elections at grassroots level on non-party basis was an attempt to depoliticise political arena in the province.

JUI-F leader Maulana Lutfur Rehman said the opposition lawmakers had only spoken against unjust distribution of development funds and that they expected positive response from the government but its attitude was deplorable.
