Police station sees four SHOs in a week

TAXILA, Oct 29: The reshuffling of four station house officers (SHOs) at Taxila police station has raised eyebrows as the transfers are believed to be politically motivated.

Initially, Sub Inspector Tariq Gondal, SHO Taxila police station, was transferred and Inspector Abdul Sattar was posted in his stead last week.

However, two days later, the inspector was transferred and Malik Mohammad Afsar was appointed as the SHO.

The very next evening after Mr Afsar assumed charge, Inspector Sattar wasagain posted as SHO but his term also proved short. He was again transferred the next day.

Now, the Taxila police are working without any SHO.

According to some police personnel, these frequent transfers speak volumes of the presence of politicalinfluence in the police.

`With the help of political interference, some policemen try to land `good` posts again and again,` said a senior police official.

Similarly, Rasheed Mughal, the president of a local NGO, said the Punjabchief minister had decided to reform infrastructure of the existing police stations where the latest facilities would be available. However, this would be a distant dream for the public, he said.

When contacted, the police spokesman said the immediate reshuffling was a routine adjustment and the transfers were made keeping in view the availability of the most appropriate choice.

He said senior officers were consulted prior to the transfers.

He denied any influence in the police department and termed it an administrative decision.
