Class IX student`s death Headmaster, three teachers penalised

VEHARI: The district education authority on Sunday imposed different penalties on the headmaster and three teachers of the Government M C High School, Burewal, for showing negligence under Peeda Act in the light of findings of a probe into death of a Class IX student, Sharon Masih, on Aug 30.

Sharon had allegedly died after being beaten by a class fellow Ahmad Raza. However, his parents had alleged that some teachers were also responsible for his tragic death.

According to a letter issued bythe authority`s chief executive officer (CEO), school headmaster Saleem Tahir, class in charge Nazir Mohal, M Ramzan and PET Dildar were proven guilty of showing negligence in an inquiry conducted by the Government Islamia School, Vehari Headmaster Bashir Chachak and Deputy Education Officer (DEO)MAsim.

The inquiry team also recommended disciplinary action against the headmaster and the teachers.

On the recommendation of the inquiry team, CEO Shokat Ali Tahir declared that the charges leveled against the suspects were true.

According to the report, the teachers and the headmaster hadfailed to perform their duty efficiently resulting in the incident.

It found there was a lack of control on part of school administration, violation of government rules and that both the students (attacker Ahmad Raza and victim Sharon ) were not enrolled.

The CEO imposed major penalty of compulsory retirement on class in charge SST Nazir Mohal under secdon 4(1)(B) of the Peeda act-2006.

He ordered withholding of one increment for one year of the three teachers and headmaster.

The education authority had already suspended the four accused from service following theincident.

During the hearing of the accused, the authority found their defence unsatisfactory.

According to the report, on being informed of the incident, it was the headmaster`s prime duty to personally take the injured student to hospital, but he assigned the duty to PET Dildar.

It declared that Sheron died due to negligence of the school management and that his life could have been saved if he was given first aid or medical treatment in time.

The punishments imposed by the education authority will be imposed with immediate ef fect.
