The leader of the Chinese delegation said the friendship between the two countries had been firmly established and these ties would continue to grow stronger.
On their way back, the delegation also visited the Pakistan Academy for Rural Development and went round the Peshawar University. The President and prominent members of Sarhad Chamber of Commerce also accompanied the Chinese guests and gave a lunch in their honour.Agency [Meanwhile, as reported by agencies in Lahore,] the West Pakistan Governor, Mr Mohammad Musa, today [Oct 29] called upon the f armers to work on a war footing for making the country self-sufficient in food.
He told them that a country could not preserve its self-respect and honour so long as it depended on another country for its food requirements. He was inaugurating the Farmers` Day at the Rice Research Station, Kala Shah Kaku, organised by the Agriculture Department. About 5,000 farmers from all over the Lahore Division attended the inaugural ceremony. The Speaker of the West Pakistan Assembly, Chaudhri Mohammad Anwar, was also present.
The Governor said: `An agricultural revolution has been ushered in the country through your and the Government`s efforts and the secret of our salvation lies in carrying this revolution to a successful end.
Mr Musa said agriculture did not enjoy so much importance before 1958, now it is next after defence in order of priority because of the keen interest taken by President Ayub Khan in the promotion of agriculture.
