LATE on Thursday night two motorcycle riders died of fatal injuries when their vehicle hit a concrete road barrier that had been set up on Jinnah Avenue in Islamabad.
The deceased were not at fault for who would expect a deadly hurdle on a major thoroughfare of the federal capital? A report in the media stated that the Islamabad authorities had taken a decision earlier in the day to block the main road with concrete barriers to deny access to a group of protestors numbering about 600 people.
As a citizen I feel the city authorities are creating a nuisance for the people by their tactics rather than addressing the issue. If the authorities think there is no option other than blocking the main roads, then the least they should do is to place psychedelic signboards to warn unwary commuters of the danger.
Two precious lives have been lost because of their lack of foresight.
