Speed governors

2017-10-30
THIS is with reference to the news and your editorial about installing `scanners` in motorcycles to detect crimes.

While that may or may not be a correct move, I suggest having speed-governor devices installed in every motorcycle engine. As is the common observation, motorcyclists in Karachi drive at fantastic speeds. Sometimes they make 100km per hour or more. This leads to accidents which maim or kill.

The police simply take no notice, even when they drive with speed on the wrong side of the road. I think manufacturers should be asked by law to install speed governors so that motorcycles cannot go beyond say 60km per hour. As for those already on roads, they should be given a deadlinefor having speed governors installed.

Motorcycles are now a safety risk for all Karachiites. I am sure that must be the case in other cities also. Our society has no concept of safety outside one`s home.
