User-friendly FBR

2017-10-30
T HE Federal Board of Revenue is the country`s main revenue-collecting department. It initiated the Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS) some years ago to facilitate taxpayers. An assesee can file returns easily if he knows how to use the software.

The objective of IRIS is to eliminate corruption, but there are flaws. It can only be run by those who had accounts or tax background. Thus the common citizen is dependent on tax practitioners and lawyers.

The registration process sometimesbecomes exasperating when IRIS f ails to send emails containing registration details.

Its main drawback is that when you submit your return within the deadline, the system warns you that once you submit your return, it cannot be edited again.

The tax law says that you can edit your return within 120 days of filing it through submitting an application. This process becomes complicated when you have to face tax department of ficials to amend your return as everyone can surmise what transpires.

As a taxpayer who is a layman I request the FBR authorities to remove all such hurdles.
