PMDC`s centralised admission policy opposed

Bureau Report 2018-10-30
PESHAWAR: The Youth Forum of Provincial Doctors Association has opposed the centralised admission policy of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council.

It demanded of PMDC to amend the policy to avoid depriving students of their right to education in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, PDA Youth Forum president Dr Shahbaz said that a new controversy was created after introduction of the centralised admission policy by PMDC.

He said that the policy would allow the students to get admission in private medical colleges on open merit in other provinces.

Dr Shahbaz said that test for getting admission in medical colleges was conducted by Educational Testing and Evaluation Agencyin Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and by Medical and Dental College Admission Test in Punjab. He said that results of both the test systems were different from each other.

He said that a total of 61,900 candidates appeared in the entrance test in Punjab while 38,068 students took the test in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He said that the score of position holder was about 98 per cent in the MDCAT test against 81 per cent of the Etea`s position holder.

`If PMDC doesn`t amendment the centralised admission policy, most of the students will be deprived of getting admission in private medical colleges in KP,` said Dr Shahbaz.

Flanked by association general secretary Dr Zeeshan Khan, Dr Javed and others, he urged the chief Justice of Pakistan, prime minister, president of PMDC, chief minister and provincial minister for health to take notice of the matter to save the future of students.

He said that students and their parents would launch protest and move court if the issue was not addressed immediately.

He said that merit list of Etea test was yet to be displayed that was wasting time of students.

Dr Shahbaz alleged that many parents wanted to change the results of Etea test through re-totaling and re-checking methods.

He urged the provincial government to immediately issue the merit list instead of changing the results.
