PPP foundation day flags flutter

By Our Staff Reporter 2014-11-30
LAHORE: The PPP displayed hoardings, banners and party flags in different parts of the city to mark its foundation day here on Sunday.

PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari will preside over twoday workers convention in this regard at the Bilawal House on Sunday and Tuesday.

Police allegedly uprooted a PPP camp in Muslim Town and arrested its nine workers including Lahore chapter vice president Haji Iqbal.

The camp organisers were reportedly playing the party songs when policemen raided there and beat them.

They were later released.

PPP leaders Manzoor Wattoo and Samina Ghurkicondemned the police action.

Mr Wattoo also condemned the Punjab government for fixing flexes over PPP`s on The Mall despite assurance by home and chief secretaries to the contrary.

He demanded the chief minister to take notice of it.

Talking to reporters outside the Bilawal House, Manzoor Wattoo said Lahore was `giving a look of city of PPP.` The workers were reaching here from across Punjab to attend Sunday`s event and from other parts of the country for Tuesday`s convention.

Mr Wattoo said the PPP did not want to opt for politics of agitation to save democracy.

`The PPP has joined democratic forces and now there is no danger to democracy and the PPP would play the role of active opposition,` he said.

Wattoo said Imran Khan would not be able to maintain tempo after Nov 30 and his popularity graph was bound to decline.
