Another case for Urdu

2014-12-30
KARACHI: The annual conference of the Scientific Society of Pakistan urged the Government to make Urdu the medium of instruction at all levels in West Pakistan without further delay. A resolution said the annual conference of the Scientific Society, as well as its earlier conferences, have proved that Urdu is fully capable of expressing scientific subjects of the highest standard, and that there is no justification for not adopting it as the medium of instruction. By another resolution, the Society congratulated the Government for the establishment of the Division of Science and Technology in the President`s Secretariat, and hoped that it will be given freedom in its working so as to become an effective means in scientific research and investigation, and that its finances will be made so strong that implementation of all schemes for the advancement of science is carried out successfully.

The Society expressed surprise and sorrow against the proposal of the Planning Commission that there is no need for carrying out scientiñc research in universities, and drew the attention of the Government and the Commission to the fact that only the universities and their allied institutions throughout the world have remained the centre for basic and applied research work.
