2014-12-30
I OPENED the op-ed pages of Dawn on Dec 24 and felt so proud and a little nostalgic to see reproduced in the section `70 years ago a letter to the editor from my late father, published in the Dawn issue of Dec 24, 1944.

My father served in the ministry of information and broadcasting, which he joined in pre-partition days.

He wrote several books on geopolitics of Pakistan in the era of collective security Seato and Cento. His first book Pakistan Seeks Security, published by Longmans in 1960, was the prescribed text for the MA Political Science degree at Karachi University. He wrote a few more books, among them A Path for Pakistan and Modernisation Menaces Muslims, written afterservingat The PakistanInstitute of Islamic Research on deputation for a few months, until the hasty exit of its then Institute director, Dr Fazlur Rehman.

My father retired from government service in 1976, and passed away in 1993.

Thank you, Dawn for reviving his memory.

May he continue to live through his writings.
