Baligh asks admin to chart master plan for Bahawalpur

B A H AW A L P U R: Punjab Governor Balighur Rehman has asked the administration to prepare a master plan for the development of Bahawalpur city.

At a high-level meeting here on Monday, the governor directed Commissioner Raja Jahangir and Deputy C o m m i s s i o n e r Bahawalpur Zahid Parvaiz Warraich that the proposed city master plan must be comprehensive in all respects comprising provision of all basic amenities.

According to an official handout issued here on Monday, the governor stressed the need to resolve all basic problems of local population.

Balighur Rehman also directed to take meas-ures for the setting up of a slaughter house and a cattle market with modern and latest requirements in the city. He also directed that work on the under-construction Jhangra Eastern dual carriageway should be expedited to link the city with Sukkur-Multan Motorway.

The commissioner in his briefing informed the governor that measures were being taken for the restoration of collapsed sewerage system in some parts of the city due to the last rains.

He said a synthetic athlete track costing about Rs370 million was being developed at the local stadium.

The governor condemned the terror attack in Peshawar police lines mosque and expressed grief and sorrow over the loss of lives.

MARYAM`S VISIT: PML-N senior vice-president and chief organiser Maryam Nawaz will be reaching here on a twoday visit on Wednesday [tomorrow] instead of Feb 2 [Thursday] on her first leg of the visit to south Punjab.According to the itinerary released by Federal Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Ms Nawaz is scheduled to address PML-N workers` convention here on Feb 1 while she will discuss the party`s organisational issues next day i.e. Feb 2.

After Bahawalpur`s visit, Maryam Nawaz will go to Multan for two days and will address workers` convention and discuss party`s organisational matters on Feb 5 and 6, respectively.

Ms Nawaz on the second leg of the tour will visit Dera Ghazi Khan on Feb 15 and address a convention and a public meeting on Feb 15 while she will discuss party`s affairs on 16th.

MURDER: Three people, including a woman, were killed and one injured in separate incidents in the district on Monday.

In the first incident, a man allegedly murdered his wife in the name of honour in Tahir colony of old Hasilpur.

According to police spokesman Aamir Nazir, Muhammad Hayat suspected her wife of loosemorals. On Monday, he killed her with a dagger when she was on the roof of her house.

Police have arrested the suspect and registered a case under section 302 of Pakistan Penal Code.

In the second incident, some unidentified motorcyclists shot dead a man A.D.Channar (45) at village Gobind within the limits of Nowshehra Jadid police, about 40 kms from here.

According to police sources, the bikers after killing him managed their escape.

On receipt of information, police shifted the body to hospital for postmortem examination and registered a murder case under section 302 of PPC against unidentified persons.

Abid, a loader rickshaw-driver, was killed while his companion Abdullah sustained serious injuries when they were run over by a speeding tractor-trolley at Chandni Chowk near village 108/DB in tehsil Yazman. Police claimed to have arrested the driver.
