Two shot dead for `honour` in as many incidents

KARACHl: A man and a woman were killed in the name of so-called honour in two separate incidents in the metropolis on Thursday.

Quaidabad SHO Farasat Shah said a man, 22-year-old Mubarak Rehman, was killed by his in-laws near Makki Masjid, Street 12, New Muzaffarabad area.

The victim had married a girl named Amna with their own free will in Shah Latif Town around five-six months ago. Thereafter, he left his parents` house and started living with his uncle where he was shot dead by the in-laws over honour.

The SHO said the suspects along with their womenfolk had fled. The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities.

In another incident, an 18-year-old girl was shot dead allegedly by her brother in Orangi Town, police said.

They identified the victim as Shaheen Khan, 18, and said she was shot and killed by her brother, Shehbaz, in the name of `honour` inside their home in Banaras near Bilal Masjid.

During the initial probe, it had transpired that the girl had gone `missing` from her home in Bukhari Colony and her brother had lodged an FIR against unknown suspect(s) over charges of kidnapping on August 17, 2024. However, as she returned home on Thursday, the suspect shot her dead and fled. The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

Suspected robber shot dead in `encounter` A suspected robber was shot dead while another arrested in wounded condition after an `encounter` off Superhighway on Thursday.

Site Superhighway Industrial Area police said the encounter took place between them and the robbers at Kacha Pakka Road near N-3 petrol pump, where after an exchange of gunfire, an unidentified robber was killed while his accomplice arrested in wounded condition.

East police spokesperson Syed Umair shah said the robbers were fleeing after snatching cell phones from citizens when the encounter took place.

Three snatched mobile phones, two pistols and one bike recovered from their custody.

The body and injured were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
