Filthy water in irrigation channel irks residents

TIMERGARA: Residents of Stanadar village on Sunday complained that the stinking smell coming out of the Balambat irrigation channel had been causing various diseases.
Talking to journalists here, Toor Lali, Asghar Ali, Younus Khan and others said that due to use of substandard material and unpaved surface water had been stagnant in the channel for months.
They said dirty water leaking from the channel also entered nearby houses causing miseries for the inmates, adding that residents were exposed to dengue, malaria and other diseases. The channel, they said had become a breeding place for mosquitoes.
The residents said they had approached the concerned authorities to reconstruct the water channel, but to no avail. They warned to stage a sit-in outside the deputy commissioner`s office if the concerned authorities didn`t resolve the problem.
TEACHERS DEMANDED: Residents of Kumbar and Lal Qila areas in Maidan have demanded of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to appoint science teachers to government higher secondary school, Lal Qila.
In a statement on Sunday, they said that students passing SSC examinations had to go to other colleges due to absence of subject specialists in the local school. The meeting was informed that a function would be held at Peoples Secretariat, Balambat which would be attended by PPP local leaders, activists and PSF workers.
