SWABI: A family dispute claimed the lives of a couple in the far-flung Batakara village in Topi tehsil here on Thursday.
The incident occurred in Batakara village in the jurisdiction of Topi police station. According to police and local residents, Nusheen Begum, daughter of Gul Mohammad, had developed differences with her husband Mohammad Anwar and was staying with her parents. Both the families belong to the same Batakara village. They said that parents of the girl had filed a case in a local family court, demanding dowry and other expenditures which infuriated family members of Mr Anwar.
They claimed that Mohammad Fayaz and Riaz Mohammad, brothers of Mr Anwar, sneaked into the house of Gul Mohammad late on Wednesday night and opened indiscriminate fire on the inmates. As a result, Gul Mohammad and his wife Kausar Perveen were killed on the spot. However, Nusheen Begum who was also present in her parents’ house ran and took shelter in a house in the neighbourhood. The accused managed to escape after the incident.
Ijaz Mohammad, son of Gul Mohammad, has registered an FIR against Fayaz and Riaz in the Topi police station. A police party visited the crime scene and collected evidence. Zarnab, a sub-inspector at the Topi police station, said that police had been conducting raids at various places to arrest the accused.—Correspondent
