THIS refers to Pervez Hoodbhoy`s article `A balance sheet for May 28`. I disagree.
Pakistan at present is confronted with an existential threat, from within as well as from without. Atomic weapons are the ultimate a nation could posses to preserve its territorial integrity, and are to be used only against external aggression. These are not a plaything to be used in a street fight or terrorism-related cases or against drones or even in cases of minor skirmishes against an adversary, as alluded to by the writer.
It is the people who mal Only recently, Mr Hoodbhoy and an ex-ambassador to the US lobbied against acquisition of F-16 aircraft by our country.
This is unfortunate. It should be remembered that any weapon of whatever make, type and origin, which Pakistan may have now or acquire in future will certainly be used against an enemy.
To equate freedom movement in occupied Kashmir with the unrest in parts of Balochistan is an affront and an offensive proposition and cannot be condoned. The former is a relic of history and has an international recognition and involvement, while the latter is a purely domestic affair; any Indian activity (in whatever garb) thereinis blatantinterferencein the internalaffairs ofa sovereign country.
Democracy, strong economy, provincial harmony and promotion of a tolerant society are matters of governance. Most of the issues afflicting our country are because ofadministrative and political incapacity.
Towards the end, I would only add: let us stop being appologetic. We have the weapon and are proud of it, and can ill-afford to have another tragedy.
