LAHORE: The University of Education (UoE) students on Tuesday protested against the varsity administration for not allowing them summer vacation.

The students staged a protest demonstration on the campus (in Township) and asked the administration why they were being deprived of summer vacation.

`Since summer vacation has begun at many other public varsities, includ-ing Punjab University, we fail to understand as to why the UoE is an exception as mercury is rising,` a varsity student said, desiring anonymity.

He deplored that the administration was issuing no summer vacation schedule.

The students urged the provincial higher education department (HED) to intervene.

A varsity official said exams in some of the departments were underway and the UoE administration might announce summer holidays after that.HED secretary Nasim Nawaz was not available for his comment.

UET: The University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore and Institute of Public Safety Research, Tsinghua University, on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a joint academic and research programme in public safety research.

UET Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Fazal Ahmad Khalid said the joint venture would be beneficial for both parties and strengthen their collaboration in the areas of mutual development.
