CHITRAL: Two persons committed suicide and body of a man was recovered in different incidents here, police said on Saturday.

An official of Chitral police station told Dawn that body of Shaukat Ali, 25, was found on a riverbank in Sheshi Koh area.

He said the victim was subjected to torture before being strangulated to death.

He said the deceased was married and had two children, adding that the police had taken into custody a number of local residents for interrogation.

An official of Shagram police station said a man, 60, ended his life by jumping into a river.

Quoting the victim`s wife, he said there was no apparent reason of the suicide.

A similar incident occurred in Chuinj Mastuj, where a youth, 24, allegedly shot and killed himself with an automatic rifle inside his house.

An official said an investigation had been started under section 174 of CrPC to know the real cause of the deaths. He added postmortem of both the bodies had been carried out.
