Clerics warned against declaring anybody infidel

ISLAMABAD: Special Representative to the Prime Minister on Inter-Religious Harmony and Middle East Hafiz Tahir Ashrafi on Friday warned clerics and the general public against declaring anybody infidel or uttering sacrilegious comments that is derogatory for any sect.

HafizTahirAshrafi,whois also the chairman of Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC), was talking to a delegation of clerics and religious figures here in his of fice.

He said no individual, group or organisation would be allowed to damage the sanctity of the sacred places of any other sect.

The meeting was part of the series of meetings being held to promote religious harmony and inter-sect tolerance during Muharramul Haram.

Hafiz Ashrafi highlighted that Prime Minister Imran Khan had given the instructions to develop coordination between Ulemas-Mashaykh and officials in different cities of the country, in collaboration with Pakistan Ulema Council and Muttahida Ulema Board.

He said Paigham-iPakisran Code of Conduct was being implemented across the country, and the religious leaders belonging to all the four mainstream sects had endorsed the Paigham-i-Pakistan initiative and supported the vision of Prime Minister Imran khan for intersect harmony in the country.

He said no one would be allowed to attack on the foundation of ideology of Pakistan and Islam.

`The Prime Minister Imran Khan has given clear instructions that the state will protect the rights given to Muslims and non-Muslims under the Constitution, Hafiz Ashrafi said adding, `All efforts are needed to eradicate extremism and terrorism and impart the true teachings of Islam among the young generation.

He highlighted that there has not been any religious based killings or riots in the country in the last seven months.

He said af ter the month of Muharram, meetings would be held with all NGOs working for inter-faith and intersect harmony. Staff Reporter
