PML-Q to boycott by-polls under present ECP members

By Our Staff Reporter 2015-08-31
LAHORE: After the PPP, the PML-Q too has announced boycotting of upcoming by-polls if the Election Commission members do not resign over rigging allegations.

`All four provincial members of the E CP have lost the credibility and transparent elections cannot be held under them. Our party will not take part in the by-polls till their resignation. The other opposition parties should also completely boycott the by-election,` PMLQ`s senior central leader Pervaiz Elahi said in a statement here on Sunday.

Mr Elahi said all opposition parties were asking ECP members to resign without further delay as they miserably failed to hold free and fair elections in 2013.

`New ECP members should be selected in consultation with all political parties,` he demanded.

Earlier, the PPPannounced that it would boycott the elections if the ECP members did not resign for their failure to hold rigging-free general elections.

Meanwhile, PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain will call on disgruntled PML-N senior leader Sirdar Zulfiqar Khosa on Monday (today) at his Defence residence to `formally` invite him to join his effort to form a United Muslim League.

Mr Shujaat had recently met former president Gen Pervez Musharraf, PMLFunctional chief Pir Pagara Sibghatullah Shah Rashidi and former Sindh chief minister Syed Ghaus Ali Shah and discussed the formation of the United Muslim League minus `N League`.

`All factions of the Muslim League will be united to form a new party probably before the local body polls in Punjab and Sindh,` Zulfiqar Khosa told Dawn.
