LAHORE:PunjabCouncil of Arts will celebrate Defence Day from Sept 5 to Sept 7, council Executive Director Chauhdry Asif told Dawn on Sunday.

Mr Asif said the council`s head office in Lahore, along with its eights district arts councils, that fell under Punjab Council of Arts, will hold musical evenings featuring national songs and theme plays, besides seminars.

He said in Lahore prominent singers and groups, along with emerging ones, would perform at the Open Air Theatre, Bagh-i-Jinnah, on Sept 6.

Veteran playback singer Afshan and folk singer Shaukat Ali have been specially invited to perform on the occasion.

Mr Asif said the venue would be illuminated and decorated for Sept 6 events which were expected to be attended and people from dif ferent walks of life.

He said different district arts councils would be staging theme plays on war heroes of the country, besides holding seminars and other programmes to highlight the importance of the day.
