LAHORE: A man and a woman were found dead in Factory Area on Sunday.
The victims were identified as Rehana, 27, and her cousin Safdar, 40. Both were allegedly shot dead at Rehana`s house in Sitara Colony late on Saturday. Police reached the spot, took the bodies into custody and shifted them to morgue for medico-legal examination.
Police registered a murder case against Rehana`s brothers, identified as Irfan alias Aamir and Imran, on the complaint of Safdar`s father, Muhammad Afzal.According to a first information report registered by Factory Area police, complainant Afzal claimed his son wanted to marry Rehana, his brother-in-law Abdullah`s daughter.
But, he said, Rehana`s family refused the proposal. His son approached her family again at which Aamir and Imran got infuriated and shot dead both Safdar and Rehana.
Investigating Officer SubInspector Nazir Husain said the suspects in their statements claimed Safdar wanted to contract a second marriage with Rehana and they had refused as he already had four children from his first marriage. They claimed the incident took place lateon Saturday when Safdar visited their house and after killing Rehana, shot himself in the temple.
Cantonment Division SuperintendentofPolice(Operations) Imtiaz Sarwar told Dawn initially police had registered a murder case on the complaint of Rehana`s father but they were waiting for a post-mortem report to establish facts.
He said they had started an investigation and were yet to establish what happened due to conflicting statements from both sides. The SP said both parties were close relatives and initial inquiries suggested Safdar`s marriage proposal had been turned down several times by the girl`s family.
