PESHAWAR: All Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Workers Union will observe a complete strike across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Nov 6 against the ban on recruitments in the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco).
The decision was taken at a meeting of the executive committee of the union held at the Wapda House here on Monday with its central chairman Gohar Taj in the chair.
The meeting said the union had given Nov 3 deadline for acceptance of its demands but the Pesco management did not pay any heed to it. Through a unanimously adopted resolution, the panicipants urged the federal government to take notice of the Pesco`s failure to fill the vacancies. They pointed out that scores of posts had fallen vacant due to either death or retirement of the employees, but their sons were not recruited on the posts.
Mr Taj insisted that Pesco had adopted an anti-worker policy which was forcing the employees to do extra duties in order to meet their requirements. Fatal accidents, he said were increasing fast in Pesco due to lack of staff, prolonged duties and work pressure, adding the All Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Workers Union could not remain silent over the injustices and would observe complete boycott of duties on Nov 6 to press its demands.
