DERA ISMAIL KHAN: One person was killed and six others were seriously injured when two groups traded fire over a land dispute in Jhok Thotha area of Kacha, police said here on Monday.

A cantonment police official said the firing left onepersondeadandthree each from both the groups injured. He said the injured were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital, Dera.

On being informed about the incident, DSP city circle Hafiz Mohammad Adnan and SHO Cantonment policestation Gul Sher Khan along with a contingent reached the spot and started further investigations.

Meanwhile, a woman died after she was hit by a speeding dumper on the Paharpur-Rangpur Road near Niaziabad Adda on Monday, a Rescue 1122 official said.

Separately, on the directives of Federal Ombudsman Office, Dera, a retired woman employee received Rs738,000 on account of pension arrears.

A press release issued by Dera OmbudsmanOffice said the woman had submitted an application with it, seeking help to get her pensionarrears, which had not been paid to her since 2005 despite repeated requests.

Soon after receiving the application, regional incharge of Federal Ombudsman Office Sang Marjan Mehsud initiated an inquiry and sought details of the case.

Finally, the case was resolved and the pension arrears were transferred to the complainant`s bank account. The woman expressedhergratitude to Federal Ombudsman Ejaz Ahmed Qureshi and the regional in-charge for timely action. The woman said she received the dues within 30 days of lodging the complaint.
