2026-10-31
TOKYO: UN and Communist delegates made no progress towards agreement on a cease-fire line in three hours of talks at Panmunjom, today [Oct 30]. The sub-committee will meet again tomorrow.

Major General Henry Hodes, senior UN officer on the sub-committee, said ... in the six days since the armistice talks have been resumed the Communists had `made no concession, no offer that attempts any reasonable solution.

The UN Liaison Of ficer, Col Norman E dwards, ... handed the Communists a note inquiring about a 12-year-old Korean boy alleged to have been seized by the Chinese inside the Panmunjom zone two weeks ago. The note said that if the boy was not guilty of an offence he should be given into UN custody for return to his family. Fighting was reported ... in the Kumsong area. ... Communists south-east of the town launched a night attack which the allies `stubbornly resisted.

. Fighting swirled to within one mile south-west of ... Panmunjom ... and civilians in the area were being evacuated behind UN lines. Allied forces bit deeper into Red lines [on] both ends of the Korean battlefront while tank infantry teams ... fired into village of Chosori. News agencies
