KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah has said his government has reservations over the Sindh High Court (SHC) judgment on local government ordinance and will challenge the verdict in Supreme Court.
Talking to media personnel on Monday after an event held on the premises of the SHC, he said that all arrangements were in place to hold local government elections in Sindh on Jan 18, but the polls could be delayed due to the judgment.
He said a committee had yet to be constituted to negotlate with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement on local government law.
Earlier, speaking at the annual dinner hosted by the Karachi Bar Association, the chief minister said the provincial authorities in coordination with the federal government had managed to improve the law and order situation in Karachi.
He said that in order to empower women, his government had allotted around 60,000 acres of agriculture land and provided financial assistance to over 700,000 women under the Benazir Income Support programme in the province.
