Ex-servicemen reject Musharraf`s claim about army support

By Amin Ahmed 2013-12-31
ISLAMABAD: Two associations representing former servicemen have rejected the statement made by former president retired Gen Pervez Musharraf that the entire army is upset with his trial on charges of treason.

The army had nothing to do with the imposition of emergency by Gen Musharraf, said a joint statement issued on Monday by President of Pakistan ExServicemen Society (PESS) retired Lt Gen Hamid Gul and President of Pakistan Ex-Servicemen Association retired Lt Gen Ali Kuli Khan.Taking exception to Gen Musharraf`s statement, the two former generals said he seemed to be trying to implicate the army as abettor of the alleged offence which was in violation of article 6 of constitution.

The members of PESS and PESA considered declaration of emergency and sacking of judges as Gen Musharraf`s personal acts, the statement said.

Gen Musharraf`s claim that the action was taken by the cabinet also makes reference to the army irrelevant.

The ex-servicemen were of the view that the best course for him would be to follow the law and let judiciary decide the case on merit.
