MANSEHRA: Scores of people took to the streets in Balakot on Monday against what they alleged unfair distribution of prefabricated houses among families living in the `red zone` by the Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (Erra).
`The prefabricated houses are meant for the survivors who got married before or just after October 8, 2005 devastating earthquake, but Erra officials are finalising names of those who don`t fulfill the criteria set for distribution of these houses,` said Mohammad Asif, president ofPakistan People`s Party, Balakot chapter, who led the demonstration.
The Erra has already distributed over 4,000 prefabricated houses among the survivors donated by Saudi Arabia following the earthquake.
The authority is now distributing 50 more such houses among surviving families at `red zone`, which sparked protest allegedly over unfair distribution. The protesters raised slogans against Erra.
They said the 50 prefabricated houses with each unit comprising two rooms, a kitchen and lavatory should be given to those families who remained deprived of the facility when the tragedy struck.
