LAHORE: The World Punjabi Congress sees salubrious effects of Nawaz-Modi meeting in the tense relations between the two countries.
A special meeting of the WPC advisory council held here on Wednesday hoped that the process of peaceful relations would go on unabated notwithstanding the hurdles created by fanatic and bigoted elements in both the states.
It regretted the attitude of Indian Congress party debunking Prime Minister Modi`s visit to Pakistan. It said though the peace process was first initiated during first stint as prime minister of Benazir Bhutto when Rajeev Gandhi had visited Pakistan it was carried on successfully by BJP prime minister Vajpayee, who came all the way to Lahorein a bus for establishing a new chapter of mutual understanding and friendship.
The council hoped that PM Modi would come out of his past stance of Hindutva, disengage himself from the ultra-nationalist parties and take further initiatives for establishing good relations with Pakistan.
WPC Chairman Fakhar Zaman recalled the efforts the body had been making for the last 30 years for friendly relations between Pakistan and India. During the period, he said, 25 international conferences were held in Pakistan, India and other countries calling for peaceful relations between the two neighbours.
He called upon the two governments to beware of conspirators, fanatics and mischief mongers who would like to thwart the peace process.
