Vendors to get model pushcarts on Jan 7

LAHORE: Model pushcarts will be launched early next month in some of the city markets so that people can be served hygienic food.
Some 29 pushcarts would be provided to vendors on Jan 7, Commissioner Abdullah Khan Sumbal said on Wednesday while presiding over a meeting.
Under the beautification of Lahore initiative, around 150 model pushcarts would be distributed among vendors by March-end with the cooperation of Akhuwwat -a non-profit organisation, he said.
For the sustainability of the initiative, the city district government, Punjab Food Authority and Akhuwwat would sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), Mr Sumbal said, adding that the Commissioner`s Office would monitor the whole process and coordinate among all stakeholders.
SANITATION DRIVE: Acampaign was launched at Gulberg`s Main Market on Wednesday in order to sensitise traders and residents of adjoining areas to solid waste management system, significance of clean environment and masses` role in its maintenance.
The Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC), in collaboration with Turkish company Albayrak, the campaign comprised an awareness walk, camps, public briefing, distribution of pamphlets, machinery demonstration, symbolic waste picking and clean-up operation.
Led by senior officers of LWMC and Union Council chairman Muhammad Zulfiqar, the campaign was participated in by a large number of residents, market committee members and sanitary staff.
A token waste picking activity on the roads, market and on the streets of adjoining localities was also carried out in addition to mechanical washing of roads, footpaths etc.
