PESHAWAR: The University of Engineering and Technology Peshawar and the British Council on Wednesday signed an MoU to introduce a credit-hour-based courseforundergraduate students and a capacity-building initiative for the faculty.
The agreement was signed by the Country Director, British Council Pakistan, Peter Upton and UET Vice-Chancellor Engineer Syed Imtiaz Hussain Gilani, according to a press release.
Under the British Council`s `Citizen Education and Community Engagement Programme, Active Citizens` project, the UET would introduce a non-weighted three credit hours certiHcate course for undergraduate students and to develop capacity of the faculty members as facilitators by organising oncampus training.
In August this year around 30 faculty members of the UET had completed a five-day training onthe project.
Meanwhile, the UET`s department of computer systems with a team of four trained facilitators successfully completed the first phase of the programme (The Learning Journey) with the 5th semester students of BSc engineering programme.
Three modules namely identity and culture, debate & dialogue, society & citizenship and SAPs were conducted in a 12-week stretch.
This helped students to think through issues related to their own identity, and to explore ways to relate to other people and cultures being part of a wider society.
Issues related to the nature of society and citizenship were also discussed.
The second phase will begin with the students planning projects that will benefit their communities.
The Higher Education Commission and the British Council launched the programme for students of all degree-awarding institutions, the press release said.
