Citizen-police committees reactivated

ISLAMABAD: With a view to safeguarding the interests of citizens and immediately addressing the grievances of complainants coming to police stations, Islamabad police have reactivated citizen-police coordination committees (CPCC) in each police station, the police stated.
This time the CPCCs consist of notables of the society, who will enjoy equal status as there will be no secretaries and presidents of the committees.
Police of ficers have also been included in the committees as liaison of ficers, they stated.
A meeting of CPCCs of City Zone comprising six police stations was held which was participated by all members of the CPCCs, Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs) and SHOs.The meeting decided to settle parties` disputes on merit. SP (City) Zubair Ahmed Sheikh said CPCCs members should work with great responsibility.
Police and public cooperation will be enhanced in order to strengthen trust between the two, the SP stated, adding that all police stations in City Zone will depute one head constable to assist members of CPCC in their functioning.
SDPOs will check progress and submit fortnightly report to the authorities, the SP stated, adding that representatives of these committees have been asked to work honestly and with devotion in order to solve the problems of the people.
It has been decided to make crime control measures more effective with police and public cooperation.
The committees should resolve community problems on priority basis, the SP said, adding the police should ensure friendly and decent attitude with the people.
