A bad day for motorists

By A Reporter 2015-12-03
LAHORE: A terrible traffic gridlock was witnessed in Lahore on Wednesday as hundreds of motorists remained stuck almost for the whole day in the city.

The situation was much disturbing on The Mall, Davies Road, Fane Road, Mozang, Lytton Road, Shadman Chowk, Jail Road and other adjoining arteries where the motorists spent hours due to traffic gridlocks.

Commuters and motorists faced a great deal of inconvenience after the closure of city`s leading roads because of Chehlum processions and Data Sahib`s urs. Several motorists tried to use smaller arteries and streets of the residential areas but they got trapped in the bumper-to-bumper traffic there too. Traffic wardens were found absent, leaving the motorists high and dry.

Patients` transportation to Services and Mayo hospitals also remained an issue as Jail Road was choked with long queues of vehicles due the construction of a signal free corridor. Ambulances could not find way to reach hospitals.

Traffic police spokesman Ali Nawaz told Dawn the roads in and around the Data Darbar area were barricaded due to security reasons. He said more than 300 traffic wardens were deployed in and around the Data Darbar area to regulate the traffic.
