By A Reporter 2015-05-06
ISLAMABAD: The syndicate of Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) on Wednesday rejected the vice-chancellor’s proposal to bring down the curtains on linguistics department.

The university, while placing the proposal before the syndicate, contended that the department was no more a profit-making entity and should be closed down.

The syndicate, however, rejected the idea.

MNA Arifa Khalid told the meeting that the university, instead of closing departments, should open new ones.

“All members rejected the university’s proposal,” she told Dawn.

“A committee will deliberate on this issue and share its findings with members of the syndicate in the next meeting,” said QAU Vice Chancellor (VC) Dr Javed Ashraf.

The syndicate also directed the VC to get the university land vacated from encroachers.

The syndicate approved dozens of promotion cases, however, cases of two senior faculty members, Dr Nazeer Hussain and Dr Zafar Jaspal, could not get the syndicate’s nod.
