ASWJ activists protest leader`s killing

PESHAWAPJ MANSEHRA, Dec 7: Activists of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) on Saturday took out rallies in different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa against the killing of their leader, Maulana Shamsur Rehman Muavia, in Punjab and demanded early arrest of the killers.In Peshawar, protesters led by Maulana Mohammad Ismail Darvesh gathered outside the Peshawar Press Club holding placards and shouting slogans to demand arrest of and exemplary punishment for their leader`s killers.

Speaking on the occasion, Maulana Darvesh said innocent people attached to ASWJ were being target-killed in the country exposing the government`s failure to maintain law and order.

He said had the government arrested those involved in earlier killings, no one would have dared kill Maulana Shams. He said three ASWJ activists were earlier target-killed in Karachi.

The ASWJ leader urged the government to arrest all such killers without delay before ensuring exemplary punishment for them.

In Mansehra, scores of ASWJ activists and sympathisers took to the streets to demand arrest of killers of Maulana Shams.

The protesters marched through the city holding banners and placards, and shouting slogans against the government.

Speaking on the occasion, ASWJ leaders Maulana Syed Hussain Shah, Maulana Hifzur Rehman and others alleged that the federal government was executing a US plan to cause chaos and instability in the country.

They warned that the ASWJ activists would block Karakoram Highway for indefinite period if the government failed to arrest the killers of Maulana Shams and ensure their punishment.
