47 shops sealed in cantonment areas

RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) has sealed 47 shops and disconnected 372 water connections in different areas of the cantonment, declaring them illegal.

RCB spokesman Qaisar Mehmood told Dawn that the civic body`s enforcement branch visited different areas and sealedsix shops in Saddar, five in Marble Factory area, 10 along L J. Principal Road, 10 in Dhoke Syedan, three in People`s Colony, seven at Mohallah Hukamdad, three on Police Station Road and three in Allahabad.

He said the shopkeepers were given notices to remove their goods from footpaths and roadsides but they failed to comply with the directives, adding that after the three-day time period passed,the shops were sealed.

`As many as 372 water connections were also disconnected in Allahabad, Naseerabad, Gawalmandi, Misrial Road, Chur Chowk, Allama Iqbal Road, Marble Factory, Saddar, Tench Bhatta and Peshawar Road,` the RCB spokesman said.He said notices were served on house owners, who had acquired illegal connections, to submit dues if they wanted to get their connections regularised.
