The 44th meeting of the BOG was held here on Thursday after a gap of six years. The last board meeting was held in 2011.

The BOG could not meet after high court was moved against its formation, an official privy to the information told Dawn.

He said the BOG, which was headed by Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, was to meet at the SZH.However, he said, the meeting venue had to be shifted to the Civil Secretariat after a group of paramedics led by an operation theatre attendant (OTA), Nasir Uddin, threatened to disrupt it. The paramedics had declared both the BOG`s formation and the meeting illegal.

Among other important issues, the meeting also discussed matters related to controversial status of the ad hoc Departmental Promotion and Selection Committee (DPSC). Health department officials raised the issue that being ad hoc body, the DPSC could not deal with the regular promotion and selection cases. To resolve the issue, the BOG accorded the DPSC a regular status. After theBOG`s decision, the DPSC will recommend cases for regular selection and promotion of officials from BS-17 to BS-20 to help overcome shortage of senior faculty at the SZH.

To decide the cases of BS-17, BS-18 and BS-19 officials, the DPSC shall be headed by Prof Dr Farid Ahmad Khan and for selection of BS-20 officials, the body will be headed by the chief secretary.

The board also constituted an executive committee headed by Prof Farid Khan to deal with the day-to-day affairs in accordance with the laid down rules and regulations.

MPA Ghazali Butt, Pakistan Industrial Board former chairman Basit Khan and Prof MM Khan will be members of the executive committee.

The board condemned the conduct of OTA Nasir Uddin for hurling threats of disrupting the important meeting.

The board members decided that the government employees trying to create unrest at the institute should be dealt with an iron hand while those desiring resolution of their issues be called for negotiations.

During the discussion, the BOG accorded approval to the four-tier service structure of both doctors and paramedics.

The budget estimates for the year2014,2015and2016 were also approved by the BOG.
