Pak-Afghan chamber opposes tax on trucks

PESHAWAR: Pakistan-Afghanistan Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PAJCCI) senior vice president Ziaul Haq Sarhadi has expressed serious concern over the imposition of heavy tax on the trucks carrying export goods to Afghanistan by the authorities in Kabul.

In a statement here on Sunday, he said the Afghan authorities had imposed a tax of 5,000 Afghani, which in Pakistani rupee was more than 9,000, on each truck carrying Pakistani goods to their country. He added that Pakistani authorities only imposed 2,500 Afghanis per truck coming from Afghanistan.

Additionally, Mr Sarhadi said, Afghan authorities were also collecting an amount of Rs5,000 from each truck returning to Pakistan after unloading the goods. In case they declined, the Afghan authorities asked the Pakistani drivers to park their vehicles in the nearby stream, where hundreds of such trucks were stranded. The measure of Afghan authorities, he said had inflicted millions of dollars detection charges on Pakistani traders.—Bureau Report
