Primary teachers warn of protest over upgradation demand

PESHAWAR: All Primary Teachers Association (APTA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has urged the provincial government to address the long-standing demand for upgradation of primary school teachers in the upcoming provincial budget, warning that thousands of teachers will stage a protest outside the provincial assembly if their concerns are ignored.

The demand was reiterated by APTA provincial president Azizullah Khan while addressing a meeting of the association’s executivecouncilhereonSunday.

Mr Khan said primary school teachers across the province were closely watching the preparations for the 2026-27 budget and expect the government to take concrete steps to ensure their welfare.

He demanded of the chief minister, Muhammad Sohail Afridi, and the finance adviser, Muzammil Aslam, to ensure that primary school teachers were granted what he described as their legitimate rights.

Mr Khan said the government should address disparities in pay scales, arguing that employees with similar educational qualifications should not be placed in different grades.

He urged members of the provincial cabinet and lawmakers to support the teachers’ demand for upgradation and ensure that it was incorporated into the provincial budget for the next fiscal year.

TheAPTAleaderwarned that if the demand was not included in the budget, thousands of primary school teachers from across the province would gather in Peshawar to protest outside the provincial assembly on the day of budget presentation. Bureau Report
