QUETTA: A door-to-door campaign to enrol every child of school-going agewillbelaunchedsoon,Balochistan Education Minister Abdul Rahim Ziaratwal said on Wednesday at a press conference.
Senior officials of the education department were also present at the briefing.
Mr Ziaratwal said that though there were hurdles in the `campaign to enrol students` across the province but `we are trying our best not only to remove these hurdles but also enrolthe maximum number`, so as to provide all children their basic right.
`In all districts of Balochistan, we have sent books for students in their schools through district education officers and local administrations as most of the children cannot afford to buy books,` he said.
While replying to a question, he conceded that the government officers themselves preferred to send their children to private schools and colleges but now the situation was changing as around seven per cent of students had come f rom the private to government sector institutions, he added. Teachers who were appointedunder the Aghaz-i-Haqoog-i-Balochistan Package were working on a temporary basis but the present government had confirmed their jobs and now they were working as permanent teachers.
The culture of cheating in the province, according to him, had remarkably decreased. New posts and vacancies in the education department, he pledged, would be filled only on merit.
Mr Ziaratwal said that the government was serious about addressing educational woes and would take stern action against absent teachers along with placing checks and balances on them.
