TOBA TEK SINGH: Body of a youth who had jumped into a canal on Thursday while talcing a selfie was recovered af ter 48 hours from TrimmuSidhnai link canal on Saturday.

A resident of Haidriwala, Muhammad Obaid, had gone for a picnic on Thursday with his friends to the twin Trimmu-Sidhnai link and Trimmu Sidhnai-Haveli link canals around a kilometre from Shorkot Cantonment.

He was taking selfies on a railway bridge on the canals when Lahorebound Shalimar Express fromKarachi appeared on the track. He got scared and jumped into one of the canals and disappeared. Arrouti and Shorkot Cantonment police and divers of Rescue 1122 had searched for Obaid in the canal, but failed.

On Saturday, farmers saw Obaid`s body close to another canal bridge near Chak 700/43-GB. Scores of people attended his funeral prayers, including MPA Chaudhry Khalid Ghani.

SUICIDE: A woman allegedly committed suicide on Saturday in Pirmahal`s Chak 775-GB village.

Police claimed Farzana Bibi had exchanged harsh words with her inlaws over a domestic dispute and laterconsumed poison. She was shifted to Pirmahal THQ Hospital where she died.

ACCIDENT: A youth was crushed to death by a car near Kamalia on Saturday.

Police claimed Irshad Ahmad of Bilal Ganj was making arrangements for the Qul of his father who had died a day earlier. He was walking near Sarfaraz Chowk on Kamalia-Toba road when a car hit him, killing him instantly.

Meanwhile, an oil tanker hit a man, his wife and two children who were travelling on a motorcycle on Rajana Road in Pirmahal. They were admitted to the Pirmahal THQ Hospital in critical condition.
