President, PM exchange views on major issues

By Syed Irfan Raza 2012-07-03
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf met President Asif Ali Zardari on Monday and discussed with him issues relating to Pakistan-US relations and Nato supply routes, sources in the Presidency told Dawn.

However, a press release about the meeting did not mention that the two PPP leaders discussed the issue of Nato supply routes.

`Overall political situation and law and order situation in the country, particularly Balochistan, were discussed during the meeting,` the President`s spokesman Farhatullah Babar said.

The sources said the prime minister had informed the President that he had called a meeting of the Defence Committee of the Cabinet on Tuesday to review negotiations held with a visiting US team on the Nato supply issue.

According to the sources, the government is very close to taking a decision on reopening of supply routes to forces in Afghanistan on its own terms and condition, which may include an increase in levy on transportation charges.
