Two DPOs transferred...

LAHORE: The Punjab government removed two district police officers (DPO) from their positions over poor performance and reshuffled three BPS-21 officers.

The two DPOs were marked as low performers in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz held two weeks back where she had expressed displeasure at the 15 DPOs and four RPOs.

Inspector General of Police Punjab Abdul Kareem issued a notification on Monday, removing Chakwal DPO Kashif Zulfiqar and BhakkarDPO Shahzad Ranque Awan from their positions.

Mr Zulfiqar was directed to report to the Central Police Office (CPO) for further order while Mr Rafique was posted as SP Security Special Branch, Lahore.

Both these officers have been replaced by Muhammad Asim and Shahid Ahmad Khan, respectively.

In a separate move, the Punjab government transferred Additional IG South Punjab Kamran Khan and posted him as additional IG Punjab Highways Patrol (PHP) against a vacancy. He was replaced by BPS-21 officer Shahzada Sultan who was earlier serving as additional IG Investigation Punjab.

Additional IG Khurram Ali Shah, awaiting posting, has been posted as additional IG Investigation.

An official who was privy to the development said this individual transfer was interesting as Mr Khurram had earlier served as DG NCCIA. The federal government had transferred him from the post of and posted him as DG Police Bureau. However, he didn’t join the new posting because he was exploring some other assignments. The IGP offered him a position in Punjab.

The official said that Additional IGSouth Punjab Kamran Khan had served for three years and was willing to get any other assignment. Consequently, the government decided to replace him with Shahzada Sultan to make a move to facilitate Khurram Ali Shah as additional IG Investigation Punjab.

About the transfer of two DPOs, the official said the IGP had issued instructions that the DPOs who were given a grace period to improve crime against women and children would have to meet the targets to prevent their transfers in two weeks or so.The police chief had said that he would review the DPOs performance every week to decide their future.

The official said another review meeting was expected in days to come.
